The University of Wisconsin–Madison Division of Extension Dairy Team will host a live webinar on Monday, February 2, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Central Time ↗️ to help dairy producers better understand the Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC) Program and other upcoming program sign-ups.
Leonard Polzin, Dairy Markets and Policy Outreach Specialist with UW–Madison Division of Extension, will lead the session and discuss how DMC can be used as an effective risk management tool. His presentation will focus on the fundamentals of Dairy Margin Coverage, key risk considerations for dairy operations, and trends observed in previous years of program participation. The webinar will also provide participants with an opportunity to ask questions and receive timely guidance ahead of enrollment deadlines.
The Dairy Margin Coverage Program is a voluntary risk management program administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency (FSA). DMC offers financial assistance when the margin between the national all-milk price and average feed costs falls below a coverage level selected by the producer. The program has changes, including up to 6 million pounds of production coverage and 25% for a six-year lock-in.
By participating in DMC, dairy farmers can help protect their operations against declines in milk prices and increases in feed costs, supporting more predictable and stable income. Eligible applicants include dairy operations in the United States that produce and commercially market milk from cows.
USDA’s Farm Service Agency has announced that enrollment for the 2026 Dairy Margin Coverage Program will be open from January 12 through February 26. The upcoming webinar is designed to help producers make informed decisions before the enrollment deadline.
