Summary
Working with animals often means caring for others, but that care can come with an emotional cost. In this seminar, Hernando Duarte, an Extension Educator with the University of Wisconsin–Madison Farm Management Program, will discuss compassion fatigue, a reality that can affect people who work daily caring for animals and facing difficult situations on the farm.
Participants learned how to recognize the signs and symptoms of compassion fatigue, understand why it can particularly affect dairy farm employees, and explore practical strategies to reduce its impact.
In addition, the seminar presented six key steps for building a culture of safety on the farm in a straightforward and practical way. Participants learned about tools and approaches that can help prevent accidents, strengthen team commitment, and ensure that every employee can return home safely each day.
