Introduction

Calves born with knuckle over pasterns, also known as contracted tendons, present a unique challenge for dairy and beef producers. This condition, where the calf’s pasterns (the area between the fetlock and the hoof) are flexed abnormally, can affect their mobility and overall health. Although most will make a full recovery, it does present itself as an obstacle at birth. Understanding the factors that contribute to this condition can help in managing it.
